Twenty-Four Seven
Purpose
THE PURPOSE of 24.7 is to equip middle school students to go, tell, love and serve beyond the walls of Dawson. We will convey to students that God desires for us to have a “24/7” mindset toward missions. That is, He commands us, His followers, in His Word to go, tell, love and serve ALL THE TIME. We hope to accomplish this by teaching them about missions through God’s Word and giving them practical, hands-on opportunities to serve others in Jesus’ name. We pray that as students develop this “24/7” mindset - and do so with their whole heart - that they will deepen their relationships with God and experience the abundant life Jesus speaks of in John 10:10.
When, to whom, and where will we GO?
We will go into the streets of Homewood, into our schools, into the greater Birmingham community and beyond. We will go to fellow students, friends, neighbors, and, yes, even strangers. Because we are approaching missions holistically, we will not have a set time weekly that we will “do missions.” Rather, we will incorporate missions into Sunday morning Bible Study, Wednesday night small groups, one-time service projects, and on-going mission opportunities, such as tornado relief efforts.
What will we TELL?
We will tell of the love of Jesus Christ and the relationship with God that can come only through Christ. We will tell with our words and our actions.
How will we LOVE?
We will love as Christ taught us...first, we will love God with our whole heart, mind and soul, and we will love our neighbors as ourselves. (Really? really!) We will seek to love “the least of these” as Jesus taught us in Matt. 26:35-40.
How will we SERVE?
Jesus said, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45. We will explore what Jesus meant as we serve strangers, friends, neighbors, relatives, and our brothers and sisters in Christ. We will learn that service is a day-in, day-out lifestyle...not just a periodic event.
