Improve Your Mind and Memory

Ready to test your executive attention capacity?

Quick!  Say aloud what color you see in every word, NOT the word you read.

Explanation: The STROOP test is used in neuropsychological evaluations to measure mental vitality and flexibility, since performing well requires strong attention and selfregulation capability.

Body Composition Assessment

Appearances can be deceiving. Weight alone is not a clear indicator of good health because it does not distinguish between pounds that come from body fat and those that come from lean body mass or muscle. Carrying too much fat puts a person at risk for many serious medical conditions. In fact, obesity contributes to at least half the chronic diseases in western society.

A Body Composition Assessment measures:

  • weight
  • basal metabolic rate
  • % body fat
  • lean body mass
  • total body water (helps monitor hydration level).
  • Within 30 minutes the Assessment can be done, results reviewed with you, and a print-out given. Call to schedule an appointment. No charge for this assessment.

Lipid Profile and Blood Glucose Test

The Health and Wellness Ministry is licensed by the Alabama Department of Health as a clinical lab. You can schedule to have your lipid profile or glucose level tested.

    A Lipid Profile measures:

  • Total Cholesterol
  • Triglycerides
  • LDL
  • HDL
  • TC/HDL Ratio

  • Within 30 minutes the tests can be run, results reviewed with you, and a print-out given.

There is a $10 charge for the labwork.

    First Aid and CPR Classes

Both Certification Courses and shorter “Training Only” classes are offered through the Health and Wellness Ministry.
    Call 871-7324 for details.

    Medical Equipment Available

The following medical equipment can be checked out as needed:
  • Wheelchair
  • Hospital Bed
  • Walker
  • Crutches
  • Cane
  • Bedside Commode
  • Shower Chair

  • Also, if you have any medical equipment like the items mentioned above to donate, the Health and Wellness Ministry would like to recycle it to individuals in need.

    Blood Donation

The Health and Wellness Ministry sponsors two Blood Drives on campus each year.  Also, a Donor Registry has been developed listing Donors and their Blood Type.

Individuals can call the Health and Wellness when there is a need for Blood (such as an upcoming surgery). We then call and ask individuals on our registry to give a Designated Donation for that person.

Please call if you would like to be listed as a Blood Donor in our Registry. In addition, we would keep you posted of upcoming Dawson Blood Drives.
