Donations

When and where to bring donations:

Mondays from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. (except Jan. 2)
Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
First Saturdays of every month, 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Volunteers will receive and process the donated items.

Please bring donations to the REAR door of the Kids Connection building at 32 Green Springs Hwy.

Kids Connection serves children from birth through age 16 so donations are needed for all those ages.

The following items may be donated:

• Clothes, coats, shoes, socks, hats and gloves
• School uniforms
• Books
• School supplies (new)
• Educational materials for use in the home
• Toys
• Sports equipment
• Baby blankets and pillows
• Diaper bags
• Backpacks (clear)
• Strollers
• Other equipment used to raise a child, such as booster seats or potty seats

Please note that we cannot give away used car seats due to a state law.

The following items will NOT be provided at Kids Connection

and therefore we cannot accept them as donations.

• Food
• Electronics
• Computers
• Televisions
• DVDs
• Furniture
• Bedding

Financial contributions may be made, which will be used to buy things that must be given new, such as diapers, baby wipes, underwear, hygiene products and car seats, or to supplement items for which we do not have enough donations.  Checks should be made to Dawson Memorial Baptist Church and clearly indicate it is for Kids Connection.  Checks may be mailed to Dawson at 1114 Oxmoor Road, Birmingham Al 35209.

Location

Kids Connection is at 32 Green Springs Highway,
which is North of Valley Avenue, between the Salvation Army and Pizza Hut and is in the middle of the strip shopping center nearest to Pizza Hut.

Basic Information about Kids Connection

. . . is a ministry of the Dawson Family of Faith. The purpose is to be obedient and show God’s love to the least of these by providing some of the physical resource needs of children from birth to age 16 whose parents or guardians do not have the resources to meet all of those needs.

Anticipated opening date is March 2012

Volunteers
The ministry will be run totally by volunteers, the significant portion of whom will be Dawson members but members of other churches will be invited to volunteer as well.  Some volunteers will be needed for a standing time each week and others can be more flexible. 
The ministry will operate out of a rented storefront on Green Springs Highway, including retail display space and room for processing and storing donated items waiting to be displayed.

Hours of operation
Kids Connection will initially be open to clients two days a week and four hours each of those days.  People can come only by appointment.  Two additional days each week volunteers will receive donations and prepare them for display.

Funding
Funding for the costs of the ministry will come from the Dawson budget and designated contributions. 

Volunteer information

Kids Connection is an outstanding opportunity for you to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way and touch the lives of children throughout the Birmingham area.  Volunteers are needed to:
• Publicize the ministry to other churches and agencies
• Process donations and manage inventory
• Purchase items to be given away
• Manage the retail store, including assisting the customers
• Provide spiritual counseling to customers
• Maintain records
• Maintain the facility.
