January 2012

9:40 a.m. in the Chapel

UNLEASHED—On the verge of the Promised Land, the Israelites were given direction and guidance to be unleashed and to inhabit all that God had promised. As we begin yet another year, we will learn through the book of Deuteronomy about being unleashed to possess the calling and the mission that God has called us to. We are unleashed to abandon everything for the will of God in our lives. Let’s begin this year together by learning as a community of faith to be open and available for all that God has in store for us.

January 8— Released to Unleash Deuteronomy 1:1-8
God has provided the Promised Land for us to possess. This is a general message that sets up the series as it relates to being released from captivity and set in front of the land that we are to possess….metaphorically a land of living in the will of God. This Sunday the focus will be on our release and God’s faithfulness in setting us up in a place to live faithfully for him.

January 15 — Unleashed from Fear Deuteronomy 1:19-40
Those who did not enter the full will and plan of God were those Israelites from the generation that lived in fear of taking the land promised to them. Fear paralyzes us from living fully and whole-heartedly in the plan and mission of God.

January 22 —Unleashed from False Worship Deuteronomy 4:15-31
For us to live and to thrive in the plan and will of God, God must be worshiped above all else. We can not fully live in the mission God has called us to when we are falsely worshipping and adoring anything other than our God.

January 29 -- (Tim Simpson will be preaching) Unleashed from Disobedience Deuteronomy 5
God has called us to a new way of living. In the new land and new mission God is planning for us we are called to live obedient lives, holy and set apart for God.

February 5—Unleashed to Love Deuteronomy 6:1-9
We are set free to live a life of love for God and for one another. The mission God is calling us to always relates to a mission of love.

February 12—Unleashed to a Good Plan Deuteronomy 6:10-12
The mission and plan God is inviting us and calling us to is a good plan-a plan that will help us to fully experience true living—abundant and meaningful life.

February 19—Unleashed to Glorify God Deuteronomy 9 and 12
In all we do, we are to realize that we are on mission because of God and Gods’ incredible grace and not because of our righteousness. We are to live on mission to fully glorifying God.

February 28— Finding your place in the story—This will be Encounter Sunday and the focus will be very practical…how to help the community of Journey listen to find the place in God’s mission that they are being called.
